Top Antiviruses for 2012 (Free Version)

Hi there! It's me (again), with another computer - related post. Since last time it's about potential cyber threats in 2013, let's see some free antiviruses that shine (kind of) in 2012.

1. Microsoft Security Essentials.
The easy, yet effective way to protect your computer from dozens of malicious softwares. Easy to use, a user friendly interface, and completely FREE. The downside? If your Windows OS aren't genuine, keep reading for another choice or find a genuine key somewhere.

2. AVG Antivirus Free 2012.
In terms of interface, personally I find it rather simple. Been using it for a while myself.
Performance wise, however, low CPU and memory usage and effective protection in a pretty fast scan process. Downside: not too effective against phishing and exploits.
Side note: Here's version 2013, giving better protection. Just do regular virus scan, ok?

3. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
With this, removal of malwares are never as easy. Seriously. It won't be hindered during installation, even by the most resistant malware present. There's also FileASSASIN, a specific tool made to help delete any kind of file, even those locked by other processes. Unfortunately, it's a cleanup-only antivirus and although it cleans the malware's detected, the detection rate isn't so great.

4. Avira Antivirus Free.
7 out of 10 person i know uses this antivirus. With a simple, user friendly interface as well as an easy installation step, a fast scan and an above average protection level, who could blame them? It's weakness? Not so effective against rootkits.

5. Comodo Cleaning Essentials
A fully portable, no installation needed, and effective antivirus. It is effective as well against rootkits.
Goes full cleanup, no protection though. Still, it also has a malware sensitive autorun analyser, and a more advanced Task Manager alternative. The problem is, you'll be having a long scan, and many inactive malware traces are left behind. Only use it to install a more reliable one.
